JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for assisting clinic staff in providing professional, courteous and caring patient care and treatment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Obtains the patient health history, checks vital signs and records patient information into patient chart.
  • Optimizes patients' satisfaction, provider time, and treatment room utilization by having necessary supplies, equipment and tools ready for use by providers.
  • Administers injections, collects blood draws and urine samples as ordered by medical providers as defined by state statutes.
  • Assist with data management in health record system as directed by physician.
  • Sterilizes and cleans instruments used in examinations; maintains clean and hygienic environment
  • Responds to telephone requests and provides routine information and escalates to medical providers when appropriate.
  • Maintains medical supplies and equipment in treatment rooms on a daily basis.
  • Inventories medical supplies and equipment and requisitions as necessary.
  • Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal medical information.
  • Maintains operations by following policies and procedures.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • High school diploma required; Medical Assistant certification preferred.
  • One year experience working in clinical environment, preferably as Medical Assistant
  • One year experience in the collection of vital signs and the collection of blood and urine samples.
  • Thorough understanding and experience in phlebotomy.
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic to intermediate medical terminology.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the appropriate safety precautions necessary to safely perform all patient care.
  • Enthusiastic commitment to providing state of the art, innovative and advanced medical care and exceptional customer service to patients and internal customers.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing to patients, medical professionals and clinic staff.
  • Ability to create and maintain effective work relationships with patients and providers.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and balance workload in order to service patients and meet deadlines and requirements
  • Self-motivated, self-directed, and willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done
  • Must be able to operate basic office equipment such as printer, scanner, fax and/or copier

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Intermediate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications
  • Working knowledge of any medical software/systems preferable

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

  • Semi-repetitive type work which requires periods of concentration for varied time cycles as prescribed by the tasks.
  • While performing the functions of this job, the employee is continuously required to sit; regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, talk or hear; frequently required to reach with hands and arms; and occasionally required to stand, walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision; and color vision.
  • Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 10 pounds

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

Normal working conditions as found within an office setting, wherein there is controlled temperature and a low noise level.
